• The largest German airline, Lufthansa operates about 240 jets (roughly 1/3 Boeing and 2/3 Airbus)
• Lufthansa flies to a long list of domestic German, European and global destinations on other continents from its hubs in Germany - given the scale of its operations it is surprising how little emphasis is given on its route map to holiday destinations (no flights for example to Tenerife)
• Its main hubs are at Frankfurt and Munich, and is expected to develop a third one at Zurich following its takeover of the largest Swiss airline, Swiss International (will be completed in 2007)
• Member of the Star Alliance with SAS Scandinavian, British Midland and United Airlines
• In 2005 Lufthansa flew over 50 million passengers (about 8 million more than Ryanair, 15 million more than British Airways or Easyjet)
